New obsession: Numb3rs.

Maths stil confuses the hell outta me. Much work to do, but have dont nothing really today, interrupting that nothing for half an hour at 5 to watch some random fireworks coming from the castle.

Is it weird that I feel mildly hippocritical for watching Numb3rs while my laptop is balanced on a pile of 'Statistics without maths for psychology' books?

Id love for it to be something cool (like a fire breathing ferret or a phoenix), but I think my Animagi form would probably be a Koala....

Just did this test where you upload a photo, answer some questions, and it says your personality. My results:

Test Results

nose to mouth

57

nose length

25

forehead

22

lower lip

2

nose width

58

eyes

49

face width

99

upper lip

71

mouth width

35

*measurements are relative to your individual face dimensions
*measurements are then compared to averages yielding a 0-100 percentile

Stability

63%

Orderliness

|||

20%

Extraversion

|||||||

50%

Your most prominent facial feature is your:
forehead
Your least prominent facial feature is your:
lower lip

Stability results were moderately high which suggests you are relaxed, calm, secure, and optimistic.

Orderliness results were low which suggests you are overly flexible, improvised, and fun seeking at the expense too often of reliability, work ethic, and long term accomplishment.

Extraversion results were medium which suggests you average somewhere in between being assertive and social and being withdrawn and solitary.

trait snapshot:

messy, tough, disorganized, fearless, not rule conscious, likes the unknown, rarely worries, rash, attracted to the counter culture, rarely irritated, positive, resilient, abstract, not a perfectionist, risk taker, strange, weird, self reliant, leisurely, dangerous, anti-authority, trusting, optimistic, positive, thrill seeker, likes bizarre things, sarcastic

Sound anything like me? *becomes paranoid about her forehead and nose*
Meh, could be worse, quite like that summary. Except for the rarely irritated part...thats waaay off.

Anyhoo, if anyone fancies having a go, heres the link.

Went to see my Nana today, yays! :D I drove me and Bo there, then we picked Nana up and went out for lunch and had a drive. Had to show Nana how to work the mobile Auntie Marie bought her (its one for the blind apparently, shes not too impressed...), including which way round to hold it to phone someone. No, really. Had mucho nice day :D

The more I drive my car, the more I feel like Shawn and/ or Gus driving the Blueberry. And seeing as Mum's satnav which I borrowed for the day is called Shawn, and it kept sending me the wrong way, had a good excuse to keep yelling 'Shawn! SHAWN! Dam it Shawn!' :D

Oh, and driving with my sister + Sonic Underground song 'Someday' + images of Supernatural = Epic! Can't get the image of the boys singing it outta my head now....

Oh, and listening to Michael Buble (sp?)'s voice while driving has gotta be illegal; 'an I know that we could be so a-maaaazing' *swoons*

I find it amusingly ironic that my lecture notes with the most doodles on are the ones on 'Selective attention'.

...I said I found it amusing, I didnt say you would.

Midterms next week, so Im trying to sort out my things to revise from. The developmental one everyone is dreading- you are given a report and asked questions on it, but the questions are so conveluted as they try to sound more knowledgeable than they actually are that its impossible to tell what they actually want!

Cognition is multiple choice so should be ok...if I can remember anything we've learnt (and the number of doodles all over the notes suggest otherwise).

Learning and the brain, despite being the more complicated of the tree, not to mention its essay questions, is the one Im least worried about. Why? Dr Lieberman! Seriously, than man rocks. If it wasnt for him, no one would bother showing up, but as it is, you actually leave his lectures feeling likeyouve learnt something and feel all acomplished.

FINISHED! I DID IT I DID IT!

I did it!! :D

The challenge I set myself- to read 50 books in 3 months? I DID IT! And with 13 minutes left to spare :D
In doing so, I have obviously proven myself to have absolutly no life, but regardless, I did it and Im happy. And Alex owes me a quid...

Admittedly it ended up being a bit of a rush- I forgot about the challenge for a month and a half, so really its more 50 books in a month and a half. And 7 of those books were read today....my head hurts...

Anyhoo *dances*

Shall post my complete list when I can be bothered. For now I need a cup of tea and a lie down...

This book is awful. Theyve gone from hate to 'oh hai, tell me all your secrits!; in the course of 3 pages, she has no self preservation, and is an utterly irritating moron. He sparkles and is also a moron. He keeps getting pissed that she doesnt tell anyone shes going with him. 'But will he be expecting you to return?' - if someone kept asking you that angrily, would you really go in a car with them to some secluded wood to watch him sparkle and struggle not to eat you?

And since when can vampires read minds?

Why the hell is every male in the entire place facinated with her, and why, despite her otherwise total inadequacy in everything, does she have some amazing ability to stop a vampire reading her mind? Its not like shes got top secrets in there, shes spent most of the book mentioning how clumsy she is and oggling Mr Sparkles over there

I just keep hoping that somehow I'll have gotten a copy where Edward turns round and bites Bella's stupid gormless face off...

Seriously, Dean and Sam are needed! Lock her up somewhere and stake him through the heart! Or if they wont, I will!

*Angry! Sarah is angry*

EDIT: Shes sniffing his breath! And its making her drool! WTF?

EDIT 2: Wait, now hes got super speed too? Hes a vampire, not the bloody Flash!

Urgh, Im reading Twilight right now, partly for my reading challenge, partly cos Lex insisted, and partly because I like to be informed on what Im hating. And hate it I do. Im only on page 30 of 434 and Im already angry at everyone and everything in the book (except the chevvy truck. Cos I want one).
I must admit to going into this rather biased, but still, I cant see me changing my opinion on the book's quality any time soon.

Bloody sparkly vampires. Bloody stupid teenage girls.

Those Groovy Greeks

You know, the Greek gods would be crap if you were in trouble. In the legends, whenever someone is in trouble, instead of sending down a well meaning thunderbolt or something, they always do something like turn them into a bird, or a rainbow, or some foam, or something equally stupid. Do you think its on purpose or do you reckon they just panicked under preassure?

Fleeing maiden: Help me! Im being persued by nasty men!
Gods:  Oh crumbs, better do something I suppose
Maiden: help me!
Gods: oh, um, quick, ideas people! Ideas! Anyone?
Maiden: Heeeeelp!
Gods: Someone do something! Quick, um, dont panic just-
Maiden: Aaaah!
*woosh*
God 1: A ball of wool? Really?
God 2: I panicked!

Am reading 'The tale of Troy' atm and its just mentioned the Winegrowers- 3 beautiful young women who were the daughters of the daughter of Dionysus (the god of getting pissed I believe), who all had a magic gift. One could turn anything into wine, the other could turn anything into corn, and the third? She could turn anything into olives. Olives, really? I mean, Im sure that made her the life and soul of the party then, but could you imagine that now? Most people dont even like olives! How pissed would you be that people only wanted you around to add the final unnecessary decoration to their Martini?

Everyone in legends always fully believes their dreams too. Everything is a sign of things to come. If I trusted my dreams to come true, there'd be some freaky shit happening...

Sorry to the Greek studing peeps for that rough stab at the legends. I enjoy poking holes in things far too much :D

Where does the word 'ashen' come from? Because it means pale right? In a sickly kinda way. But if you assume it come from the word ash..isnt ash black? I mean, I suppose charcole goes kinda white-grey but is that what ash is? Im confused. English studying people, explain.

Lectures today were....meh. The development one was about attatchment theory (I think), although 5 minutes in, the lecturer had managed to inadvertedly put the image of someone fisting a sheep i into everyone's heads, so no one was really concentrating (it was related, I swear...)

I think it shows how obsessed I am that throughout the whole lecture on a child's attatchment to their primary caregiver, and seperation anxiety, etc, all I could think of was the Winchesters, with Dean raising Sam, and what category of attatchment they fitted into *is so so sad*

The  cognition seminar turned into a bit of a philosophy debate- determinism vs free will. Thing is, I statred kinda in the middle, but the more the others argued fo determinism, the more I found myself moving towards free will. Dont get me wrong, I believe that genetics and our history do in a way limit the choices we have, but in the end we still have the choice and therefore we still have free will. In my opinion anyway.

We got onto the subject of how (according to Caspi et al anyway) there is a gene (MAOA) which, when of low activity, and when paired with abuse during childhood, increases the likelihood of adult agressive behaviour to 85%. Which the rest of the group saw as final clinching proof of determinism. But what about the remaining percent? What about those who had the low level MAOA and the abuse, and yet still managed not to develop antisocial behaviour? Surely thats a sign of free will?
And the more they kept saying 'but they cant help it, they were destined to do it, its not their fault', the more adamant I got that no, they could help it, they had a choice, you always have a choice!

*ehem* Anyway...

Have no food in, despite living right next to Tesco. Am having Chinese tonight.
Oh, and did you know that Tiffin is actually a cake thing? I always just thought it was some posh word people used for no reason...now I know.

I have a theory that, in order to succeed in psychology, you have to have an utterly bizzar surname. For example:

A 1993 study on th effects of child abuse was done by Kendall-Tackett, Williams & Finkelhor.

Tomasell, Nishihara, Ratrar....Im thinking Im gonna have to change my name to Humpeldigger in order to get anywhere...

Is it just me or, when you are sick or something (especially when away from home), does the order go something like this:

1. Check on the Internet
2. Phone mum
3. Go to doctors

In that order, only progressing if the previous option failed (or if number 2 orders you to go to number 3)

Am I right?

For the record, no, Im not sick, just musing.
